Forty-two community environmental census takers belonging to the Environmental Surveillance, Information and Data Registration Network (Redvida) were sworn in in Barcelona, Anzoátegui state.
César Torrealba, municipal director of Ecosocialism in Barcelona (Simón Bolívar municipality) explained that the activity aimed to certify the representatives of the 42 communes in the jurisdiction, with the purpose of strengthening ecological management and preventing contingencies in the jurisdiction.
This group completed a training process designed for the systematization and management of environmental information, which will allow them to collect accurate data and assess risks in each of their territories.
Training for census takers
To fulfill this commitment, the new enumerators completed intensive theoretical and practical training. During the training, they were instructed on the dynamics of community surveillance, training, and data collection.
They also studied the methodology for designing risk maps, complemented by the use of the Preventive Geographic Information System (SIGP) as a technological tool for the preparation of these territorial diagnoses.
Torrealba explained that Redvida seeks to digitize all environmental information and cartographic surveys of the communities.
In addition, the system will allow for the development of an early warning system to reduce response times, locate vulnerable families, and eradicate critical pollution hotspots.
The project also envisions transforming local leaders into technology managers for their area and regulating recyclers and rubber tappers in each sector, generating immediate actions for the control and protection of Mother Earth.
