September 8th will be a non-working day of celebration in Portuguesa to mark the 374th anniversary of the apparition of the Virgin of Coromoto and the beginning of the Coromoto Jubilee Year 2026-2027.
The governor formalized the decision through Decree No. 759, in light of the massive pilgrimage that arrives year after year in Portuguesa to celebrate the appearance of the Marian devotion in the plains.
The goal is for the parishioners of Portugalete to be able to attend the activities programmed by the Diocese of Guanare without any limitations and thus participate in the massive manifestation of faith that takes place in the Minor Basilica National Shrine of the Virgin of Coromoto every September 8th.
Governor Primitivo Cedeño also activated a special security operation this Friday to protect and ensure the safety of the thousands of devotees and tourists expected to travel to Portuguesa on September 7, 8, and 11, in celebration of the 374th anniversary of the apparition of the Virgin of Coromoto and the 74th anniversary of her coronation as Patron Saint of Venezuela.
From the National Sanctuary, 2.150 officials, both civilian and military, were deployed along the more than 15.200 kilometers of Portuguesa, "on every road, to receive and care for the thousands of faithful, both local and visitors, who gather here to accompany their Patron Saint," Cedeño said.
The regional leader was accompanied by ecclesiastical and military authorities from Portuguesa, headed by the head of the Comprehensive Defense Operational Zone (Zodi) 33, Asisclo Chaparro, who specified that this contingent will have 300 vehicles and 400 motorcycles to "provide security to all the people of Venezuela who come to this religious festival."
